Types of Union Surveys

Contract Negotiations

This is a common use of union surveys. Information collected from a survey can help quantify what union members need or value most for an upcoming contract. That data can be shared with management of a company to help improve transparency and open up communication.

Validate Information

A union survey is perfect to validate information or claims made by management. For example, a company's management may say to the union leaders "We offer enough training". A union rep could send out a survey to the members and find out the opposite; employee training is lacking.

Surveys can also be used to build email and phone number lists, which would help increase communication with the union.

Improve Voter Turnout

Improving voting turnout is important reason for a union survey. This could be done in phases. Phase one could be sent out one year prior to a big vote, gauging initial interest. If engagement seems low, union leaders should work on improvements before a second phase survey. The second phase survey could be run six months prior to a vote. The difference between the two phases could point to what helped improve union engagement.

Voter turnout could also be increased by more frequent meetings or events. A preference of event types could be found during a survey.

General Feedback

General feedback could ask union members how much they trust union leaders, how communication between the union and members can be improved, or ideas on how to get members more engaged.

A general union survey could also include a Net Promoter Score question. This question will give you one simple number to track and benchmark over time. Increasing this number means more engaged and happy union members.

Collecting Union Survey Responses

Before collecting large scale response from all union members, you should do a test. Send the survey to a few union members, union management, and the management of the company. Gather feedback to make sure questions are correctly asked or if additional questions need to be included.

Email Invitation

This method sends an email from the SurveyKing system to each union member (or other recipients) that are imported. Messages can be customized and could even include a members first or last name dynamically. Each email contains a unique survey link for the individual. This method helps boost response rates, as reminders can be sent to people who have not yet taken the survey.

Anonymous Survey Link

This is similar to a web link but this method adds an "Anonymous" seal at the top of each survey. This seal contains a link where respondents can learn more about how SurveyKing protect identities.

Similar to the simple link, an option can be enabled to only allow a device to submit one response.

This is the ideal for large organizations, as they can place the link in an internal message, while adding custom data to the URL.

Anonymous Email Message

This is the same setup an a standard email message, with a few differences to ensure anonymity. The benefit to this method is our system will automatically track who has completed and not completed the survey. You won’t have access to see which respondents have or have not completed the survey, only a button that says, "Send Reminders".

This distribution method does have the option to upload an Excel file with all of the needed information. We can help your organization streamline the upload process if needed.

Anonymous Survey Benefits

One of the biggest features to the anonymous link is adding custom data to the survey. For example, you could add "Region Location" to the URL. You might notice one region has different needs compared to another region. Identities would be protected with k-anonymouity.

Analyzing Results

The reporting section for each survey includes charts, graphs, and data tables. Data can be filtered, segmented, and exported. Presentational items such as commentary can be added. Reports can also be customized by deleting or adding questions as needed.

If you add a Net Promoter Score to the survey, be sure to benchmark that number and use it as a guide to improve union perception. The Net Promoter Score question and related open-ended text question can be added to the Net Promoter Module Report. This report types automatically tracks trends in the Net Promoter Score over time.

Sharing Results

Each survey report you create can be shared with one click via the "Share Report" button. This creates a shareable link for your report. The link can be sent union members, union management, or even company management and outside stakeholders. These end users can multiple the data on their end without effecting your report, enabling users to their own conclusions from the data.

Each report has a count on the number of unique devices that submitted a response. This helps to further increase transparency. If union members get a interactive report with data favorable to their contact stance, it helps increase union trust.
