A Guide to Collecting Department Feedback

Department Performance Survey Template

A department performance survey is a great way for company stakeholders to collect feedback. The results of the survey will identify the strengths and weaknesses of various departments. The results will also quantify what is needed to boost department performance and productivity.

Questions on this survey template include coworker competence, supervisor performance, and ways to improve the department. The template uses a MaxDiff question to identify what would be least and most important to make improvements.

You can include custom data in the invitation to automatically include information such as employee department or location. When studying multiple departments, this data is crucial for analysis; results can be cross-tabulated using this data, helping to identify the needs of different departments.

How to Collecting Responses for Your Survey

Anonymous Responses

The anonymous survey link is perfect to collect feedback for a department performance survey. If employee departments are added to the link in the form of custom data, identities will be protected using k-anonymity.

The anonymous email collector would be another method of anonymous data collection. This collector type gives you the ability to upload custom data directly from an Excel file and send reminders to employees who have not yet taken the survey.

Simple Web Link

A web link is like the anonymous link except that you can create multiple web links per survey, and identities are not protected. For companies with multiple departments, a different web link for each department could be used. Results could then be segmented by collector.

Text Message Invitations

Text messages are a great way to improve response rates. You can upload a list of employees, and our system will automatically send a text message to each. Reminders can be sent to employees who have not responded.

Email Invitations

Email Invitations also provide another way to quickly send invites to a list of employees. Our email platform will include open rates, click rates, and bounce rates. Reminders can be sent to employees who have not yet completed their survey.

Sample Questions

The following sample questions are included in the department performance survey template:

  • How skilled at their jobs are the members of your team?
  • How well do members of your team share responsibility for tasks?
  • How often does your team meet its deadlines?
  • Of the following, which would be least and most important to help improve the department? - MaxDiff

MaxDiff for Better Department Feedback

Asking simple multiple choice questions for department feedback might not paint the full picture of what your employees need. To get a more accurate assessment, a MaxDiff or Ranking question can be used. Both question types are unique to SurveyKing. We include a MaxDiff question on this template to ask what can be done to best improve the department.

MaxDiff asks respondents to pick what is least and most important from a set of attributes, or in this case department improvements. Data from this question is actionable, and used to shape company decisions.

Department Performance Survey Sample Data

Simple multiple choice or dropdown questions, will include a bar or pie chart along with a data table.

Advanced question types like MaxDiff will show each attribute along with the percentage and count of the times it was ranked as most appealing, least appealing, or not chosen. These results could segmented by region or by department, if doing a company wide survey.
